The first person to tell me the story was Ken Smith.
Today it was Peter Foglesong.
In between are many more.
They’re each my favorite.
It goes like this:

The VisitorCoOrdinator reaches out to welcome a prospective Visitor.
They attach one of their InfoMinutes as an example.
The Visitor responds saying . . . “not really interested in PowerCore, but
I do need you.”

I love that!

As VisitorCoOrdinator you can get business from Visitors who do,
and who don’t
become Members.

I love that!

Here’s what to do:
1: Choose a very specific InfoMinute.
The more specific, the more money you’ll make.
It can’t be too specific. I promise.
Be sure the story shows your action, and the client’s result.
Be sure the word “you” isn’t in it, anywhere.

2: Put it in a regular Word.doc.
Don’t use the InfoMinute template document, that’s too much information for a first-timer.
Just paste it into a regular Word.doc.
It will take about half the page.

3: Name it so it’s easy for them to find after they download it.
If they’re looking for you later they might remember your name,
or your classification, or the topic, or PowerCore.
Make sure the name reflects that. This is how I name it:
First Last – Classification – Topic – PowerCore
So it looks like:
Wendy Kinney – Referrals – Welcoming Visitors – PowerCore

4: Attach it when you reply to a Visitor.
Say, “We each have one minute to share new information.
Here’s one of mine as an example.”

5: Prepare for new clients.

I love that!

One of the three characteristics of winning teams — in sports, in business, in life — is camaraderie.

Last week when I welcomed a new Member they shared that they had visited another Team and it wasn’t nearly as good. It was my pleasure to explain that each of those Members preferred their Team to this one. It’s true; everyone thinks their own Team is the best.

Part of the reason is comfort, part is because they’ve shaped the Team, and a large part is the
ca·ma·ra·de·rie / Noun: Mutual trust and friendship among people who spend time together.

Here’s where you come in:
There are things you, as PCO, can do, to stimulate camaraderie.
I’ll share two, then I want to hear from you.

Several terms ago a PCO on the Emory Team asked introducers to include the first concert the 7-Minute Presenter had attended in the introduction. Finding out where we are the same induces camaraderie — and everyone has a first concert, even though it’s different. The next term’s PCO asked Members to bring a baby picture on the day they spoke, and the term after that the question was “If you were a sandwich, what would you be?” Gerrell Sterling was my introducer, and he used the answer to describe me–without ever mentioning the bread or meat. I was impressed. I felt like part of the Team. And I thought he liked me. Camaraderie.

When Ron Utterback was PCO at Mt. Vernon he planned so 7-Minute Presenters would be introduced by their GateOpeners. The purpose was to stimulate referrals. That came through camaraderie.

Now it’s your turn. What are you doing to make Team Members feel the same — even though they’re different? What tool are you using to stimulate referral growth?

***If you leave yourself logged in at PowerCore.net, clicking this link http://wp.me/p1Os7e-1YD will take you directly to the comments area.
Otherwise log in to see Members’ Center at the top. Hover there, and click the Officer’s Toolbox bar. ParticipationCoOrdinator PowerTips are about half way down, in the right hand column.

Eager to see your tips.
Gear up for referrals ~ W!

First thought — if we meet regularly to talk about business we’ll get referrals from each other.

Second thought — we’ll need an agenda so the meeting is effective and efficient.

Third thought — scripts will maximize leadership professionalism and minimize the time leaders spend preparing for the meeting.

Notice what’s missing? Scripts were never meant to be
<announcer voice> The Single Right Way.
I don’t believe there ever is a single right way. (But I’m up for the debate!)

The 25 Scripts Officers get are designed to indicate
1 — how long to talk, and
2 — what content to cover.
This purpose is emphasized on some scripts by bullets without content, indicating: insert what you decide is important.

Reading the same script, word-for-word, 40 weeks in a row, can get . . . b.o.r.i.n.g.
(The first time you heard “sidling up beside Visitors” it was funny. The second time, cute. Now?)

So how are you going to change up Script 1?
Are you going to insert each other’s birthdays?
Say how long this Officer has been a Member of the Team?
Give the classification they hold?

Will each of the Officers share the same information about the person they introduce (number of years in business) or will each have a different theme (you’ll tell the name of the PCO’s cat; the VCO will share where the MCO was born; the MtCO will give your favorite band)?

Will you make it business related — this is a business meeting; or personal — people refer to people they know.

How will you keep it professional and positive while allowing for spontaneity - or will this be a new word-for-word script, updated at every LeadershipCore meeting?

What else will have to be done if you don’t use the script you got in October?
1: Officers will have to prepare two intros, one for the 2nd or Backup for the position they introduce.
2: It might be good to print out the new script for all Officers, 2nds and Backups.
3:

Or will you keep using the printed script? Officers all say it with enthusiasm. It’s professional. Everyone knows what to do. It’s only a few seconds. It’s a comfortably predictable start to the meeting. There’s not enough value to justify the effort it would take to work up something new.

Have any thoughts?

Gear up for referrals ~ W!

Thank you Scott. The Greater Gwinnett Team is great because of you.

If you pull up at the Roswell Team, Bruce Kromer walks to greet you at your car.
What a welcome.

Last week I listened in as a few Members talked about their first visit.
Some joined that Team,
some took their second visit at another Team,
some didn’t join until a year later.

The interesting things to me were what made them feel uncomfortable,
and what made them feel comfortable and wanted.

It’s worth thinking about.
Every Visitor is an opportunity for a new stream of referrals.
Add to that the Visitors they could invite, and it quickly becomes
even more important to make them feel like they’ve arrived
at a place where they’re valued and welcome.

Share your story:
Who made you feel like this was a place you wanted to be a 7am each week,
and how did they do it?
Click comments to share.

Gear up for referrals, W!
